A couple of weekends a go gabe and I knew we needed a recharge weekend together. We head up to Globe, az to pinal peak to spend our days and nights. It proved to be just what we needed. We had an amazing campsite on top of pinal peak. It was so relaxing and a breath of fresh air for us. We basically read, ate, slept and hiked. It was so green on one of our little walks I couldn't take it all in. It reminded me of hiking through the woods in MN except going down a huge mountain and there were no bugs! (YAY)
On our way out on Sunday, our father was watching over us on this father's day. We pulled into a gas station to get fill up after descending down the mountain on a rough dirt road. (These are the kinds of roads that really make us wish we could get a subaru or at least a car that better handles the bumps of these roads.) As we get back into the car we go to start it and its not happening. We start to think and look under the hood and actually determine (well gabe did) what our problem was. To our rescue there was a family next to us with a HUGE truck and a HUGE tool box in the back to compliment it. He came over, tightened our battery cables and all was fixed. He made our possibly mountainous problem into a mole hill. I still think of this man's generosity.

Life without cable
...is amazing! In attempt to have more time on our hands and stop watching so much crap tv we've decided to unplug our cable. We have done this succesfully and happily for about 3 weeks now. Both gabe and i are amazed at how much time it seems like we have now AND how many books we can actually get through! It has been one of my better decisions of '08! :) I just finished Sunk Without a Sound to gear up for the river trip I am going on for work in July. Although I'm assuming no sinking will be going on (and if i do you better believe I'll be making sounds!) it was a grand book. It is about Glen and Bessie Hyde, the first couple (and first woman), to attempt rafting down the grand canyon in a large scow boat in 1928. It was a quick read and I highly recommend it. If you have books to recommend please share!

First Time
Well gabe has set up a couple of blogs for us and this is actually the first one i've tried (finally!) So this is officially my first blogging experience. I'm excited although I'm not sure who's going to really read it as it is just gabe and I down here but we will try to keep you posted on our latest adventures. It is an attempt at staying somewhat more connected I guess. We would love to be able to talk to everyone daily but its just not possible. We hope our family members can feel more in tune with our lives so far away and be able to see our pictures of what we are doing! I figure with work slowing down (a tiny bit) and the weather being so hot maybe I'll actually keep this updated, but we'll see! So here's to blogging and keeping all in the loop :) We hope you enjoy...
(I just made my first mistake! The learning is taking place already for me. I tried putting this posting in a description for our url. Oh well, we'll try this!)
